Update: Removal Of Bridge Tolls

USPA NEWS - Halifax Harbour Bridges will stop collecting tolls at the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge and the A. Murray MacKay Bridge two weeks earlier than the date originally announced.

The removal of tolls that had been scheduled for April 1st, 2025, has been now been rescheduled for Monday, March 17th, at 5:30 am. This will eliminate tolls that have been in place since the opening of the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge 70 years ago. Halifax Harbour Bridges recognizes that more than 200,000 Nova Scotians have MACPASS accounts, and will be refunding balances in the coming weeks.

Public Works Minister Fred Tilley said, "This is great news for commuters, and we’re proud that we’re delivering on our election promise of removing the tolls. It’s one less fee to pay when getting where you need to go and more money back in the pockets of Nova Scotians.”

Demolition of the toll plazas will begin with in the next week or so, with work starting at the MacDonald Bridge. The bridge will close for two weekends in order for crews to safely remove the plaza structure. At this time, lanes will also be reconfigured. The Angus L MacDonald Bridge Closures will commence on Friday March 14th at 7p.m. continuing until Monday, March 17th, 5:30 am. The next closure of the MacDonad Bridge is scheduled for Friday, March 21st, at 7:00 p.m. continuing until 5:30 a.m., Monday, March 24th, The change to free-flowing traffic will require removing toll booths, concrete barriers, electrical equipment, resurfacing roadways and reconfiguring lanes. Plans are underway for the removal of the MacKay Bridge toll plaza with an announcement coming soon.
